The app gives recommendations based on popular artists when a fan is not following a large amount of artists. Once you follow more artists, the app can get a better idea of the artists you are interested in and give better recommendations. 

If you are following many artists and are still having trouble, please double check that you are not following the artist (if you are please follow the instructions here to unfollow the artist).
